National Aboriginal Organizations

1. The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is the national organization representing First Nations citizens in Canada. The AFN represents all citizens regardless of age, gender or place of residence.


2. The Metis National Council (MNC) reflects and moves forward on the desires and aspirations of these Métis governments at a national and international level.


3. Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) is the national Inuit organization in Canada, representing four Inuit regions – Nunatsiavut (Labrador), Nunavik (northern Quebec), Nunavut, and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region in the Northwest Territories.


4. The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) represent the rights and interests of off-reserve Aboriginal people in Canada.


5. The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is founded on the collective goal to enhance, promote, and foster the social, economic, cultural and political well-being of First Nations and Métis women within First Nation, Métis and Canadian societies.

Federal Government Departments

1. On behalf of the people of Canada, Parks Canada Agency protects and presents nationally significant examples of Canada's natural and cultural heritage and foster public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment in ways that ensure their ecological and commemorative integrity for present and future generations.


2. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) its Special Operating Agency, the Canadian Coast Guard, deliver programs and services that support sustainable use and development of Canada’s waterways and aquatic resources.


3. Environment Canada’s mandate is to preserve and enhance the quality of the natural environment; conserve Canada's renewable resources; conserve and protect Canada's water resources; forecast weather and environmental change; enforce rules relating to boundary waters; and coordinate environmental policies and programs for the federal government.


4. The Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) handles wildlife matters that are the responsibility of the federal government. These include protection and management of migratory birds, nationally significant habitat and endangered species, as well as work on other wildlife issues of national and international importance. In addition, CWS does research in many fields of wildlife biology.


5. The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) is a committee of experts that assesses and designates which wildlife species are in some danger of disappearing from Canada.


6. The Species at Risk Public Registry provides news, information, and documents related to species at risk in Canada. This web site has been designed to help you better understand Canada's approach to protecting and recovering species at risk, learn about species at risk and what's being done to help them, and get involved in decision making and recovery activities.


7. The Aboriginal Canada Portal provides a single window to First Nations, Métis and Inuit online resources and government programs and services.
